My Gout Problem: DePurine Gout Supplements for Body Alkalinity and Reducing Uric Acid Levels

by Syang Su, PhD

About 6 years ago, I started developing gout in my feet, with swelling and pain in the big toe and heel. I would take ibuprofen, but the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) would only help reduce the pain temporarily. Every few days, the swelling and pain would heal for one side, and then rotate to the other. It was then that I formulated MegaCare’s DeGout supplement, featuring a special blend of vitamins, minerals, and herbs possessing anti-inflammatory properties. After a few weeks of taking DeGout 5 capsules a day, my gout condition went away.

Gout and Uric Acid Buildup

In the summer of 2008, gout returned to my feet and legs, but with greater pain and intensity. Gout would develop in my big toe and heel, but also move up to the knee. Gout would rotate from one leg to the other, but for a period of 1 week, gout affected both feet and legs. For 1 week, I could not get out of bed, much less walk. This picture of my feet (gout on left foot) was taken on June 11, 2008. Gout in both feet and legs eventually subsided after many months, but not until I understood the meaning of body alkalinity, leading to a new and improved gout formulation: DePurine™.

Late in 2008, I began to wonder why a few weeks of DeGout worked in 2003, but not as well the second time around. After much research, I came to the belief that body alkalinity was at the heart of the matter.

Gout is a disease of recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis, caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood that crystallizes and deposits primarily in the joints and surrounding tissue. The concept of body pH balance was developed by William Howard Hay, MD in his classic text, A New Health Era. In this book, he suggests that all disease is caused by autotoxication due to acid accumulation in the body:

“Now we depart from health in just the proportion to which we have allowed our alkalines to be dissipated by introduction of acid-forming food in too great amount… It may seem strange to say that all disease is the same thing, no matter what its myriad modes of expression, but it is verily so.”

Alkaline by Design, Acidic by Function. Metabolic processes in our body create acid as a by-product, but the fluids (most notably the blood) and tissues must maintain alkalinity for optimal health. pH imbalance is typically the result of (a) a diet dominated by purine rich foods (such as red meat and alcoholic beverages) and (b) depressed spirit (such as that resulting from anger, stress, fear).

In late 2008, I revisited DeGout and improved the formula by adding elements of MegaCare’s Coral Plus formulation to DeGout. The basic idea: DeGout reduces elevated uric acid levels and Coral Plus improves body alkalinity, both conveniently formulated in one capsule. I then took the new gout formula, DePurine™, and my gout condition completely went away in a matter of weeks. I now take maintenence dosages of 3-5 DePurine capsules a day. When I feel a slight onset of gout symptoms, I immediately take 5 DePurine capsules daily, and the condition does not worsen. I have not experienced an acute gout attack to this day.

Eye Health Issues and How Dietary Supplements Can Help: Eye Supplements, Ocular Nutrition

by Joe Su, PhD

By now, we all know that our health is directly related to what we eat. Deficiencies in Vitamin C lead to scurvy. Deficiencies in Vitamin D lead to rickets. Deficiencies in niacin lead to pellagra. These diseases have been addressed through supplementation.

Today, malnutrition comes in the form of too much of nothing. As a country, we consume too many empty calories, too much sodium, too much refined sugar. Compounding this problem, our bodies lose the ability to take in nutrients as we age.

Take MegaCare's Eye Supplement for Healthier Eyes

Eye problems are well correlated to nutritional deficiencies. Vitamin A deficiency can lead to night blindness, eye infections and xerophthalmia, a disease where the eye fails to produce tears. Zinc deficiency can prevent the body from using any available Vitamin A, which may lead to the same effects of Vitamin A deficiencies. Vitamin A and Zinc supplementation is essential for healthier eyes.

How else can dietary supplements help our eyes? Recent studies suggest that Vitamin C and Vitamin E supplementation can slow the growth of cataracts and retinal disorders. A 2005 study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reported that “a high dietary intake of beta carotene, vitamins C and E, and zinc was associated with a substantially reduced risk of age-related macular degeneration in elderly persons.”

Age-related macular degeneration is a disease, correlated with aging, that gradually destroys central vision, important for daily tasks such as reading and driving. Age-related macular degeneration, which typically advances slowly, is a leading cause of vision loss in Americans aged 60 years and older.

MegaCare’s Eye Food™ eye supplement features Beta Carotene (an important Vitamin A precursor), Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Zinc to improve eye health and help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration.

But there’s much more to MegaCare’s Eye Food™ eye vitamin formulation. Eye Food™ incorporates natural botanical extracts with strong scientific evidence (cited below) of boosting eye health.

No other formulation on the market features Eye Food™’s science-based balance of vitamins, minerals, and herbals for maximum strength ocular nutrition.

Recent studies suggest that age-related macular degeneration can be related to low levels of Lutein and Zeaxanthin, carotenoids of current interest. Astaxanthin, a carotenoid with antioxidant properties that doesn’t convert to Vitamin A, also shows promise in fighting macular degeneration.

The Eyebright herb (Euphrasia) has been traditionally used to treat eye irritation, tired eyes, eye strain, and eye infections.

Recent studies found that Bilberry (Vaccinium), when administered with Vitamin E for 4 months, stopped lens opacity progress in 97% of the cataracts (randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of 50 patients suffering from senile cataract). Bilberries contain high levels of anthocyanin pigments, which have been linked to lowered risk for eye diseases, heart diseases, and diabetes.
